The Economy of Language

You gave a direction. And the student didn't initiate your request. First ask yourself "Was my direction actually clear?" If so "Did I give them enough time to do what I asked?" For our autistic, ADHD, and Executive Function Impaired learners this is especially important because their brain pathways are very different than other brains. (That is a whole other topic in the future!) This learning style requires the accommodation of time and very accurate language. How long do you wait? It depends on the student. When ever possible, build that relationship and collect data to help you determine what your instruction style needs to be for them.
